After 9/11, the little, dwarfed-by-the-sky-scrapers St. Paul's church in Manhattan stood tall as a symbol of the presence of God, a sanctuary for troubled people in tragic times. Other communities have their "temple in the city." There is Notre Dame in Paris, Crystal Cathedral in Los Angeles, St. Peter's in Rome, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, and the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
