Although Ellen is a minister in the unitarian universalist Church today, her journey into institutional religion has been tortuous. She refused to have anything to do with any church until she was an adult.
It seems when she was a young girl of seven or eight, she attended a magnificent Episcopal Cathedral with a friend her age. Sitting toward the front of the church, she was gawking about, as any small child in wondrous, unfamiliar surroundings might.
