Among the many beautiful names...

Among the many beautiful names for God found in the Psalms, none is more attractive than that of a dwelling place, a home. "Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations." God is our home, which the dictionary defines as "the dwelling place of a family; a social unit formed by a family living together." This image of a family, living together in harmony and compassion, reflects the desire of Jesus Christ for all his followers to be united. Like a family, we Christians need to love one another, share with one another, strengthen one another, and defend our home. Like a family, we may, also, have quarrels and differences of opinion. We may even have some distant relatives who are very hard to love, for one reason or another. But, in spite of this, we are all one family united. We cannot resign from our family or disinherit others. We're in it together. We have no right to say "My ancestry is better than yours," or "I am more deserving than you." A couple of disciples tried that once and Jesus had to crack down by telling them they were ignorant and lacking understanding of the kingdom of God. "By this people will know that you are my disciples," he said, "If you have love one for another." This is the test for membership in God's family, too --that we love him and love one another.
