The Associated Press recently reported an incident which occurred in the final round of the 1979 Hall of Fame Golf Classic at Pinehurst, North Carolina. On the fifth green, Tom Kite placed his putter behind his ball. The ball moved slightly. Surprisingly, nobody but Kite saw the ball move. Kite turned to Hale Irwin and confessed, "Hale, the ball moved." Because of his honesty, he was assessed the required penalty stroke. At the end of the round, Kite finished in second place by one stroke.
