To be salty is to...

To be salty is to have flavor. When describing people rather than food, a "salty" person might be a colorful character, someone who is secure in one's own identity, self-confident, comfortable with one's own sense of values and the teachings of one's faith, someone unafraid to follow one's own path even when it is unconventional. Such persons are more likely to be at peace with themselves and the world around them than persons who are unsure of themselves. I love Jenny Joseph's poem, "Warning." The "I" speaking in the poem is clearly such a "salty" character: When I am an old woman
