In California there is an organization called "Bread and Roses." They are volunteer entertainers who travel to convalescent hospitals, homes for the aged and senior day care centers sharing their talents with people who are often lonely and neglected.

One woman in this program, who has made a lot of money in her career, is quick to say that she gets more pleasure and reward out of this volunteer work than she ever received in all her years as a paid performer (although she realizes that without the years of paid work she would not be in a position to give now).
