A character in Bernard Malamud's novel God's Grace says: "A life --to be a life --must run its course. Thus it achieves freedom of choice, within the usual limitations, but certainly the freedom to imagine the future. Having a future --or thinking you have --waters the gardens of the mind. As though one lives in two places at the same time." (p. 222) Our text from Isaiah enables the people to "imagine a future" with God.
