David continued to live in the palace and to rule the land. He took Bathsheba as an additional wife and she eventually bore him another of his many sons, this one named Solomon. Outwardly, David had survived the great sin he had committed. The divine judgment instead fell on the child, who died. But the sin David had committed was the seed for many evils. There was incest among his children. His favored son, Absolom, was an exile and then a rival for the throne. Evil begets evil.
