Each year on the island...
Illustration
Each year on the island of Corsica, during the Holy Week period, a grotesque lump of a man struggles under the weight of a massive oak cross. With a 30-pound chain tied to one ankle, he grunts and puffs to climb a one and a half mile steep hill. It is the Corsican version of Calvary and those who volunteer for the job do so because they feel they are atoning for their sins. -- Dickson
