An Ethiopian artist, Alemayehu Bizuneh, was losing his sight and was sent to a specialist in America. He was poor and had no money to pay for the operation. Instead he gave his surgeon a copy of a Hun gertuch he had painted. An explanation of the Hun gertuch was written in German. Originally in Germany the Hun gertuch was a black cloth which was placed on the altar on Good Friday to suggest the fast we should follow in sorrow for the sins that caused the death of our Lord. Today the German artist uses the Hun gertuch to depict the vast hunger in the world, for which we should be equally sorrowful and be committed to do what we can to relieve the world hunger. The Hungertuch has that special message. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the center of that message which says only as we are made one through the atonement of our Lord can we develop that sympathy for the hungry and destitute of the world. Jesus told a parable to awaken a proper stewardship of concern for the world.
