Every year U.S. denominations and congregations send missionaries to foreign countries. Working with indigenous people, they help to build schools and churches, teach, provide medical care, and many other services. First-time travelers often return home forever changed. They have experienced "church" in a new way. The face of the church in these places transcends denominational affiliation and building spaces. In settings unfamiliar to most North Americans, there is found a spirit of community grounded in a deeply-rooted sense of belonging to Jesus Christ.
