In the eyes of his culture, in the common worldview, Jason had it made. If he were truly the mythological character after which he was named, he would have found and would now possess the golden fleece. He had worked his way up through the ranks of his company to a high-level, responsible position. He was married and had four fine children, mostly grown now and beginning families of their own. He had managed to provide for them all quite well, at least economically. To all outward appearances, he was a success, almost a living legend, a model of all that his society admired and valued.
