Ezekiel was that almost psychedelic priest of the exile who had the vision about the wheel within a wheel and many other visions that we would think of as bizarre. Here we have a sort of illustration within an illustration within an illustration. Ezekiel uses the image of the valley of dry bones coming to life, the image of the exiled people returning to their homeland like people rising and coming out of their graves. And, to Christians, the whole illustration is a proleptic foretaste of the Resurrection and the Spirit that Jesus breathed into his disciples.
