A favorite party game is Telephone. The first person whispers a sentence quickly in the ear of the next individual. In turn, the phrase is repeated around the circle. The last person hearing the sentence repeats it out loud. Inevitably the sentence becomes distorted through its multiple communications. The tragedy is that it is a game played in earnest by those for whom gossip and slander come easily. The towers of reputation and friendship are often toppled.
