The film adaptation of Norman Maclean's autobiographical novel, A River Runs Through It, presents a powerful, moving story of a family and their triumphs and tragedies. The beautiful mountains and rivers of western Montana provide the background for the events in this family's life, as seen through the eyes of Norman, the elder brother. Growing up with a minister father who taught them that many of life's lessons could be learned from the art of fly fishing, Norman and his younger brother, Paul, spend many hours along the river. As they grow older, the brothers grow apart.
