The final scene of the movie, Cold Mountain, is a powerful one set around the dinner table on an Easter Sunday. Viewers are still reeling from the sad encounter with Inman's death. His long and relentless march homeward from the Civil War seemingly for naught, until one begins to look around the table and those gathered. Inman's death had come at the hands of those who certainly would have killed or prevented the birth of every person seated at that table.
