Five years ago, his doctors had given Andrew six months to live -- at best. Andrew, of course, had been devastated. He had felt a combination of rage that he had so little time, and terrible fear that the next months would grow increasingly more painful as his life faded out. He had been enveloped in a dreadful ennui born of hopelessness. But, within a week of the doctor's fatal pronouncement, Andrew's attitude had inexplicably begun to change. He had not said a thing to anyone about his diagnosis; it was too bizarre.
