A friend of Pope John Paul II had suffered during World War II as a guinea pig in vicious medical experiments. She was saved by the underground movement of the Ravensbruck concentration camp. She vowed that if she survived, she would be educated as a psychiatrist to help heal others. After the War, she was one of the most sought-after doctors in the city of Cracow. -- Schmitz
