"Goodbye," she said. Then, half-way down my drive she spun around and called out, "I'll never forget you. Thanks for everything." With those words, she stepped to her car, eased down the drive, and turned up the street. It was the last time I saw her. She had come for counseling, had driven almost 100 miles on the recommendation of a friend and the hope that someone would listen to her story. I listened and, as any good counselor knows, she was able eventually to hear herself and to work through her difficulty.
