"The gospel which you received, on which you have taken your stand" (1 Corinthians 15:1, NEB). The curse of slavery was vigorously attacked in 1857 by Dudley Tyng, a young Episcopal priest in Philadelphia. Tyng was a brilliant, eloquent pastor who had graduated from the University of Pennsylvania when he was 18. He was active in the great evangelical revival held in Philadelphia during 1857-1958.
