A Hasidic legend tells how once upon a time three Hasidim made a pilgrimage to spend high holy days with the rabbi of Lublin, Poland. They went without food or money. Soon they became weak. They decided that if one of them should pose as a rabbi they would be treated well in the villages. Sure enough, when they came to a little village, the innkeeper took care of them but also told them of his small son who was dying. What else could the pretender do but go with him to see the son? The next morning they went on in a carriage furnished by the grateful father.
