In his book, A Time to Kill, John Grisham strikes an emotional nerve in American society. This gripping story seems to be struggling with the questions, "What is justice?" and "Do we really live in a just society?" The story begins with the brutal rape of a 10-year-old black girl by two savage white men. Not only do they abuse her sexually but sadistically beat and humiliate her. They eventually dump her under a bridge leaving her for dead. From here the story unfolds. The two men are apprehended and preparations are made for them to stand trial.
