How much do you know about the culture in which you live? What is the difference between a culturally literate and illiterate person? Dr. E. D. Hirsch, Jr., Professor of English at the University of Virginia, has compiled a list of names, places, dates, and events which he says every high school graduate should know. The list, hailed by U.S. Secretary of Education, William Bennett, contains 4,500 items that should be common knowledge, he says.
