I have lost the source of this story. A young doctor found himself at a hospital. One day a six-year-old boy with diptheria came to the hospital. The doctor had never performed a tracheotomy; but he knew that only such a procedure would save the boy. A young girl who had recently received her nursing degree would assist him. Together, they performed the operation successfully, and the boy began to breathe freely. The nurse sat with the boy during the night to make sure that the tube remained open. She fell asleep, the tube became blocked, and the boy died.
