I read of a brilliant young boy who was an All-American soccer player in Scotland, who graduated with honors from Oxford University and became a physician and dedicated his life to Jesus Christ to be a missionary to Africa. He was a local hero. The young physician came home for a visit before he left for Africa, knowing he probably would never be back again. While walking on the outskirts of the town looking at the hills for the last time and reminiscing, suddenly he heard a cry coming from one of the irrigation lakes. Without hesitation, he dived into the water and swam out and rescued this struggling human being. Getting the man to shore, he himself drowned saying the victim. Now the irony of the story is, the person he saved was the village idiot who couldn't tell night from day or his mother from anyone else. Now do you think the people in that town said, "What a horrible waste that this brilliant young physician who was going to be a missionary to Africa gave his life for the village idiot?" Oh no! Everyone was moved to tears that such an outstanding young man would give his life for the likes of that one. You who know you have been saved by Jesus Christ's death on the cross never say, "What a horrible waste that God died for something like me." You are moved in your heart that God would do something like that for the likes of you. And you cry, "Love!"
