If you want something badly enough, and you know it's the right thing for you, then persist until you get it.
The writer Sinclair Lewis was booked to give a lecture at Columbia University on the writer's craft. He began by asking the class, "How many of you here are really serious about being writers?” A forest of hands shot up. Lewis said, "Well, why the [devil] aren't you all home writing?” He sat down.
That was the end of the lecture. (Lewis' actual words included an expletive.)
