An important book about the church's role in a changing world is called The Frog In The Kettle. The title comes from this observation by the author. He says that if you place a frog in a kettle of boiling water, it will quickly jump out, unaware that the environment is dangerous. But if you place a frog in a kettle full of room temperature water and slowly increase the temperature of the water until it is boiling, the frog will stay in the water until it dies.
