Irene Robel lived across the street from me when we were youngsters in grade school, and we want all the way through high school together. She could always run extremely fast and she won every race she ever entered. In fact, her high school track record was set in the mid-1930s and nobody in all of Michigan bettered her 100 yard dash or her half-mile run for the next 30 years. Irene had an excellent coach, Miss Doris Teachout. Miss Teachout loved every youngster on her basketball team, her track team and every student in her penmanship classes.
