It had been a long...

It had been a long couple of days for LuAnn. She had spent the better part of three days at
the hospital. It is always draining to watch a loved one suffer; in this case it was her
husband. She knew she had to keep a positive outlook for Bob's sake as well as her
children. But seeing him lying in the hospital bed was more than she could take.
Late one night, with her husband sound asleep, her fatigue caught up with her. Tears began streaming down her face as she stood to go to the restroom. She did not want Bob to see her crying. After a couple of minutes LuAnn felt hands on her shoulders. She stood up and the nurse embraced her. LuAnn let it all out dampening the nurse's uniform. LuAnn does not remember the words the nurse spoke, only her tender embrace. The nurse kept assuring her that it would be all right. She led her to the nurses' station where she sat down. The nurse gave her a drink and a washcloth to dry her face. The two women spoke for some time.
After she recomposed herself she returned to her husband's bedside. LuAnn never saw that nurse again but knew that night when she was feeling low she was an angel. LuAnn does not remember much of what the nurse told her that night but what she does remember is the warm tender care she provided.
Jesus promises, "I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you." Jesus will never leave us but promises to be present with us always.
