It was the night of the quartet contest. In the briefing, the quartets were each assigned a room to prepare to go onstage. The quartets were told that they must not exit the contest building through the rear exit that led to a beautiful rock garden. For security reasons that door could not be opened from the outside and no one would be able to hear them if they got locked out.
