Jesus had an intimate and special relationship with the disciples. They were later called apostles because they had walked with him, witnessed miracles, his death, and resurrection. At the point of his appearance in the upper room, they were immobilized in fear and confusion. His appearance, however, confirmed the story that they had risen. He personally empowered them with the Holy Spirit.
