John and Joanne were going on holidays. They were leaving their seventeen- and eighteen-year-old children at home -- alone. Their friends were horrified. One friend said, "Well, at least warn them that I will drop in at any time of the day or night. That way they'll be too scared to try to have any friends over for a party." "Why would we do that?" John and Joanne asked. "We've never used threats to get them to behave properly. Why would we start now?" "Make sure you hide your liquor," was another friend's advice. "We've never hid the liquor before," Joanne replied.
