John the Baptizer had promised...
Illustration
John the Baptizer had promised those whom he baptized that the Christ would baptize with the Holy Spirit. When the people in Jerusalem heard that the Spirit had come to Samaria they wanted this marvelous gift, too. Why? What power does the Holy Spirit have? This poem suggests something of this power:
God's Grandeur
The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
