The late theologian Joseph Sittler once said, "The self is a center of grateful participation." It is that participation that Saint Paul is talking about in this wonderful text. He reminds the Philippians of their long involvement with him in the spread of the Gospel, and, more importantly, in their support of him in the midst of his ministry. Paul knows the undying gratitude that comes with our life in Christ. This passage echoes his many statements about the Body of Christ and how we all must work together.
