A great warrior named Hector lived in ancient Greece. One day, as he going off to battle, he called to his four-year-old son to embrace him good-bye. But the little child did not recognize his father in battle garb. In fact, the sun glinting off Hector's battle helmet terrified the boy. So Hector removed his helmet and called to his child a second time. This time the child recognized his father and ran to him. The Jews expected God to come like a warclad Hector. But God knew that such a terrifying appearance would not draw all people to him. And so, against all Jewish expectations, God took off his war helmet and came as a man of peace.
Philippians 2:5 and following talks about this.
