A man, who was not very religious, was often irritated by his pious neighbor, a woman who insisted on praying over every event in her life. One day the man approached her and asked permission to dig a drainage ditch across both their properties in an effort to eliminate the small flooding which occurred during heavy rains. "I'm sure it will be all right," the woman said, "but I would prefer to pray over it first." "Sometimes I just can't understand you, Ellie!" the man said in exasperation.
