Matthew's gospel skips from mountain...
Illustration
Matthew's gospel skips from mountain to mountain. All are related and all point back to another mountain, Sinai. Try linking this passage with Matthew 4:1-11 and build a comparison sermon by dealing with the tension between the two mountain scenes. In both there is a view from the top. With what sights does the Devil seek to dazzle Jesus? What sights are in the eyes of Jesus as he commissions his disciples? On one mountain there is an appeal to self serving, on the other a call to servanthood. Work something out on this. -- Kolsti
