Max Beckmann, German painter, created a fascinating picture of life that has no vision of a center of truth and hence no sense of time. In his picture titled Blindman's Buff (1945), there are characters scantily garbed seeking amusement in sex, cigarettes, and champagne. Everyone is absorbed in timeless sensuality, indicated by a large clock in the foreground which has neither a "one" nor a "twelve" on it, neither a beginning nor an end.
