In the movie Dances With Wolves Lieutenant John Dunbar experienced firsthand what it meant to live among the Sioux tribe. In their midst he learned of their love and mutual caring. He saw firsthand their reverence and their spirituality. The Sioux were not savages like the Pawnee. Their lives were oriented toward family and the "great spirit" who directed all things.
That which humankind knows about God's love and what it means to live as the people of God does not come from human origin or an impersonal great spirit. Like Saint Paul we have been touched by the presence of Jesus Christ. This revelation is a life-changing experience through which we become the vessels and instruments of God's eternal love. If God's revelation could change Paul and transform us, then there is hope for all humankind in our world.
