The movie The Insider tells the story of Dr. Jeffrey Wiegand, former head of research and development for Brown and Williamson, one of the nation's largest tobacco companies. Dr. Wiegand came to know Lowell Bergman, a producer for CBS's 60 Minutes, and eventually acted as a whistle-blower and a witness against the tobacco industry's claim that tobacco products were not addictive.
In one scene, Dr. Wiegand sums up his reason for telling the truth at such great personal cost in an interview with 60 Minutes' Mike Wallace. He says simply, "I think it's worth it."
