In the movie It's A Wonderful Life, Jimmy Stewart plays a man who is trying to do the best he can to "do the right thing" -- to run the savings and loan company he inherited from his father, and be of help to those who have borrowed money from him. It doesn't seem to have done him a whole lot of good -- he has never made a lot of money in it, and it has kept him from following some of his own hopes and goals. But there is also in Bedford Falls a man named Potter, who owns a bank and a good portion of other property, and would like to own everything if he could arrange it.
