My dad spent his career...

My dad spent his career as a railroad employee. First, he was a brakeman on a train. Then he settled into the work of being a yard clerk for more than a quarter century. We lived close to the railroad. I could watch Dad at work in the rail yards, counting freight cars and preparing freight bills. My curiosity would get the best of me once in a while and I would beg Dad to let me walk down the rail line with him. Most of the railroad cars had the letters L&N on the side of them. L&N stood for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company.
