The neighborhood terror was also the leader of the Dixsmith Gang. Living two blocks away, Pete could send fear into the heart of anyone who lived on my street. He was mean and tough and when he led his gang in a mudball battle you could be sure that sooner or later he would charge your fort and destroy everything that you and your friends had built. In school you avoided him at all costs. If he wanted to play ball, you had a bad leg or a sore arm. If he wanted to sit at your table at lunch, you ate faster than a speeding bullet and looked for a quick exit.
