Neil Postman has sounded an alarm that the brave new world of which Aldous Huxley warned has arrived. Postman believes that the brave new world is not a totalitarian world government ruled by tyrants, but it is a world ruled by technology. He calls this tyranny "technopoly." Postman's book Technopoly: The Surrender of Culture to Technology followed his earlier works on the evils of television for children and for teaching. Postman disdains the fact that television has destroyed the rites of passage for children and has converted the art of teaching into amusement and show business.
