In one of her many poems about death, poet Emily Dickinson used the phrase "awful leisure" to characterize the emotional tone to present among those who had just witnessed another person's death and had yet to attend to whatever would be required to get their own lives back together as a result. Goodbyes are a part of life, and they are frequently difficult, whether they are the result of a death, physical separation, conflict, or even choices about where we may travel on a vacation.
