One of the loveliest unspoiled...

One of the loveliest unspoiled holy sites in modern Israel is a national park at Banyas, where one of the headwaters of the Jordan begins in a spring which forms a pool -- lovely, pure, and cold -- from the melted snow of Mount Herman. At one time, the god, Paneas, was worshiped there (hence the modern name Banyas) and later the Roman capital of the territory was built -- Caesarea Philippi. Somewhere near here, Peter confessed Jesus to be the Messiah (and Jesus promised him that he would be a Rock.)
