One summer, some kids from vacation Bible school were running up and down the church sanctuary aisles. As they got more restless, they ran up the small flight of steps where the altar, pulpit, and lectern were. One of the parents scolded these kids and told them to go to the pastor's office and talk to the pastor about what they had done.
Not wanting to be the "bad cop" or "heavy" that this parent wanted the pastor to be, he opened up the text to Mark's crucifixion account. When it came to Mark 15:38, the pastor walked the kids out to the sanctuary and explained what it cost Jesus on the cross for there not to be a curtain of separation between the pews and the worship leaders. The pastor explained that where the lessons are read, the sermon preached, and communion consecrated used to be the "holy of holies." But, thanks to Jesus in Mark 15:38, the curtain has been torn down. Rather than being pushed into scolding the kids more, the pastor made this into a teaching moment based on Mark's crucifixion account.
