One of the unfortunate wounds...

One of the unfortunate wounds America inflicted upon itself was the internment of its own citizens of Japanese descent during World War II. It took 43 years after the war to demonstrate repentance for what we did out of anger and fear and ignorance. Finally, in 1988 Congress passed a law to compensate those who were subjected to the unjust internment. Twenty thousand dollars was given to each living person who had been detained and a public, formal apology was given by our government.
