Our culture is, too often...
Illustration
Our culture is, too often, like the old Dutch fable of the spider who let itself down from the topmost beam of a barn on a single thread. It came down to the lower level and there laid out a beautiful web. In that web, the spider lived. It was sleek and fat and happy and prosperous.
One day it was walking around its domain, and saw this single strand reaching up into the shadows and beyond where it could see. And it said, "What a useless thing that is," and tore it away. Of course, the whole web collapsed along with the spider's whole world.
