Our front porch was close...
Illustration
Our front porch was close to the sidewalk, and our neighbors would often saunter across the street to join our little group. Many an evening's visit helped those depression years fill up with joy throughout the entire neighborhood. Cora was one of the neighborhood girls. She was perhaps 10 years old at the time. All of the youngsters in our neighborhood knew that Cora was "limited." She was slow in thought, slow in speech and slow of foot. Cora just kept to herself, mostly, and she was respected by all the rest of us; we considered her to be a very good friend.
